"Messy & Exciting!"

Beginners - come and have a go!

Making a pot on the potter's wheel is something many people aspire to, but learning the basics of "throwing" requires focused, hands-on tuition, so beginners throwing is not something we are able to offer in our group pottery classes.

Fun Wheel Experience:

- 60 minutes duration

- Maximum of 3 people

- All materials included

- Class fee: €60 per person

If you just want to have a one-off go on the wheel and make a a pot, book one of our Fun Wheel Experience sessions. We will give you a full demonstration then help you centre the clay and let you take it from there and - hopefully - create something. You will get 3 balls of clay to have a go with so everyone comes away with at least one piece...usually! Remember, it's about the experience, not the end result so be prepared to love your wonky or chunky pot! Please note that your pieces will not be available to take away on the day, they will be ready to collect between 2 and 4 weeks later.

Maximum 3 people per fun wheel experience.

If you want to actually learn to throw, a more focused approach is required! To get started just book a Throwing Class. Over the course of a 2-hour class we will guide you, step by step, through the process of preparing the clay, centering it on the wheel and forming a small cylinder. We aim for you to create 3 small cylinders in your first class and you will keep only the best one. Learning to throw is a process of repetition to build skills, so your pots will be cut in half to check progress! In subsequent throwing classes you will move on to create bowls and learn how to trim the bottoms of your pots. The last 20 minutes of each class is dedicated to cleaning the wheel, tools and equipment and recycling any leftover clay - all vital everyday tasks in the life of any potter!

Once you can consistently throw a small pot completely independently you may then progress to using the wheel in our small group pottery classes. Some people achieve this in 3 throwing classes, others take longer. We will provide honest feedback at the end of each class as to how your skills are progressing, as everyone is different.

Maximum 2 people per class.

Throwing Class:

- 2 hours duration

- Maximum of 2 people

- All materials included

- Class fee: €120 per person

All throwing tuition takes place outside of standard class hours and is therefore payable in full in advance.

The exhilaration and excitement of turning a lump of clay into a beautiful vessel is hard to match, so contact us now to start learning this amazing skill!

Experienced throwers are also welcome!

If you are already a competent thrower you can still benefit from sharing a studio space with like-minded creative people. It's near impossible to find inspiration in a vacuum, so a number of our students continue to attend weekly classes despite setting up their own home studios since discovering their love for ceramics at Totem!

Experienced throwers are very welcome to attend our regular group pottery classes. When booking your class please be sure to check with us that a wheel will be available and book accordingly. Find class details, including times and fees, here.

Please note that we do not have the facilities to accommodate production potters.
